Well, I think I'm going to get back to reading now. Have a day!
Have you heard the term "rainbow bridge?" It's supposed to be a place where pets go when they pass away, to wait for you to see them again. If it's a real place, it's got one more gerbil in it now. Ash hadn't been looking well for a few days, and he passed away while I was at work yesterday. Hopefully he is enjoying the bridge with Nat now. I wonder if they'll meet up with Day, Night, and Jason, my gerbils from when I was a kid? Or maybe the guinea pigs? It's been raining for days, which is super weird. Slightly inconvenient (because I have a gerbil to bury) but also nice, since it doesn't rain here very often. I've been spending these rainy days playing Story of Seasons, reading Ember Rising, and watching Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card. It feels strange to me any time a character pulls out a smartphone in this anime since the original show (which is set less than a year before this one) was made several years ago when people had flip phones at best.

I was only scheduled to work four days this next week instead of five, and I was pretty happy about it. Unfortunately I let the manager talk me into working on Wednesday, too, so now it's just today and Friday. Today I spent a long time playing Picross DS, which helps clear my mind almost as well as Minesweeper on old Windows computers. I play the same levels over and over again while I daydream. I don't know why puzzles make me feel better, but they do.
After I finally put away the DS, I watched some of an old anime called Fruits Basket. I remember seeing the manga around a lot when I was in high school but I can't figure out why it was so popular. It's very dramatic but most of the drama doesn't make any sense to me. Maybe it didn't adapt well to TV? I finished Fruits Basket some time after lunch, then started playing Story of Seasons. I've been playing for over 200 hours now. I'm still trying to get the last country to trade with me at the market, but to do that I have to ship a ton of cooked foods and farm products. By the time I can trade with them I might get bored with the whole game itself.
There are still a few more hours of my day off left to enjoy. I think I'll spend at least a couple of them with a book. Right now I'm reading Ember Rising by S.D. Smith. It's the third book in a series about rabbits fighting against tyrannical birds of prey. The main characters are a brother and sister who are trying to find their way back to their parents and baby brother, who they were separated from when their home was attacked by wolves (Not sure why wolves are in league with birds, but OK). Their seemingly simple quest to be reunited with their family has evolved throughout the series and now the siblings are part of much bigger events than they would previously have imagined.
Reading a book is a great way to spend some time on a day off. Writing a book would be another great way to spend one, if I could find the focus and energy. On the other hand, I am also interested in learning more about animating. One of these days I'll create something to be proud of. Or just read some really nice books. Have a day!
I think I may watch too many home improvement shows. I see people take broken down, sad looking houses and turn them into something that's not only livable, but much nicer than what they could have bought already finished with the same budget. The trouble is, these shows don't apply to my life. Where I live, houses seem to cost the same amount whether they're finished nicely or not. A house that is literally falling down is often on the market for the same price as a home that doesn't need any work. But the bigger problem is, I couldn't actually afford to buy either one. My income is sufficient for a single person (and assorted rodents) to live on, but if I was making house payments there would be nothing left over for anything else. I still look anyway. Right now there is a house in town that I could potentially afford. It's super cute, in a decent neighborhood, with a good sized backyard. The problem is, I can tell just from the pictures that it will at least need a new foundation, the single bathroom is missing all the finishes, there are huge patches all over the floor, and there's a deck basically falling off the back of the building. Despite all that, I love to look at it and imagine how it could be. Who says I'm not a romantic? Maybe someday I'll have the income and bravery to match my home renovating dreams. Maybe you will too. Have a day!
I'll be honest. There's nothing interesting going on in my life right now. I work and play 3DS and sleep, and that's about it. I haven't even been to the library lately. I'm trying to find a brand of breaded chicken tenders that I can cook in the oven at home, since I love chicken tenders and don't like leaving the house to get food, but everything I've tried has either been over-seasoned or... slimy. How does everyone get it so wrong? I'm open to chickeny suggestions... So far Perdue, Tyson, and several store brands have disappointed me. Maybe I just need to learn how to cook.
